  1. Make it easy to create videos and other rich media, without specialized equipment. Kaltura Personal Capture for Education, part of the Kaltura Capture Suite, combines an intuitive interface with a user-centric experience and interactive viewing to enable easy personal video creation on campus, from the office, at home, or on-the-go.
  2. Kaltura Capture can be accessed through either Canvas or MediaSpace. In Canvas you access Kaltura Capture with the 'My Media' tool in the white left-hand menu. In MediaSpace you access Kaltura Capture in the '+ Add New' menu. During your first use, the app will be installed locally on your computer. Installation instructions for Mac are below.

Select Download for Mac. Note: Kaltura is not available for Mobile Devices. From within the Downloads folder, double click the installation file. In the installation window, drag the Kaltura Capture file into the Applications folder. After the installation is complete, close the installation window. The installation process is now complete. Mar 21, 2019 Kaltura Capture is screen and webcam recording software for Windows and macOS. It is a good fit for doing shorter recordings (4-6 min) which can be done in one take and don't require much editing.

This quick reference guide will demonstrate the steps of installing the Kaltura CaptureSpace Recorder on your computer from your Blackboard Home page.

How To Download Kaltura Video

  1. Log into Blackboard

  2. Before entering a course, from your Blackboard Home page, select Add Module.

  3. In the search box, type in My Media and select Go

  4. Select Add to add My Media to your Blackboard Home page

  5. Return to your Blackboard Home page (by clicking on Home in the upper right corner)

  6. My Media should now appear on your Blackboard Home page

  7. Select My Media. My Media allows you to add new videos by uploading them or creating them in Kaltura Personal Capture

  8. Select the Add New button

  9. Select Personal Capture. You will be given an option to download the Kaltura Capture Desktop Recorder. Select the appropriate link based on your computer’s operating system. If you have a Windows computer, select the Download for Windows link. If you have a Mac, select the Download for Mac link. If you do not have a Windows or Mac computer, you are unable to download the Kaltura Capture Desktop Recorder.

  10. Once downloaded, select run (Windows) or install (Mac).

  11. Once Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder has been installed, when you select Record a Presentation in Blackboard, a window will appear to Open Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder.

  12. The Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder will appear on your desktop to record your presentation or screen capture

The Kaltura Capture screen recorder tool below that is *within* Kaltura Drexel Streams is a memory HOG. The issue has been reported.

At present, we recommend other alternatives for making screen recordings, found at the link below.

Kaltura Capture lets you record anything you do on your computer screen as a video with audio, and easily upload to Kaltura Drexel Streams, then add to Bb Learn.

Great for voice-over PowerPoint presentations.

Works on Mac or Windows. Ignore errors that save low on disk space, but note that some applications may not run

ExpressCapture is NOT the same thing as Kaltura Capture. You cannot screen record with ExpressCapture.

Here's how to download and install Kaltura Capture for Windows or Mac.

  1. Login to Kaltura Drexel Streams at https://drexel.edu/it/streams
  2. On the Drexel Streams webpage, click 'ADD NEW,' then 'Kaltura Capture.'

  3. If prompted if it's okay to use KalturaCaptura to open this link, click 'Open KalturaCaptura,' or 'OK' or 'Yes.'

  4. If you haven't used KalturaCapture yet on this computer, click the link below for help installing it.

    1. Click either 'Download for Windows' or 'Download for Mac,' depending on whether you are on Windows or a Mac.

    2. Install KalturaCapture as you normally install a Mac or Windows program.

    3. If necessary, repeat steps 4 and 5 above
  5. When the KalturaCapture control panel opens:

    1. Set whether to record from your computer display, webcam, and/or microphone.

    2. To set to record your computer display.

      1. Make sure the computer display icon is blue (and NOT crossed out).

        Here, the computer display icon is gray and crossed out, meaning your computer display will NOT be recorded.


        Click ^ to select a different display to record from, if you have multiple monitors or a connected projector.


        You can select a part of your screen to capture too. Click 'Select Area.'

        You can select your screen capture size if you wish.

    3. To set to record from your webcam.

      1. Make sure the camera icon is blue (and NOT crossed out).

      2. If you want, select another connected or built-in camera to record from, if available.

        Here, the camera icon is blue, meaning your webcam will record video.

        Also, if you have 2 webcams connected, you can choose to record from the other webcam or camera.


        Here, the camera icon is gray and crossed out, meaning your webcam will NOT record video.


        Click ^ to select a different webcam, if another one is built-in or connected to your computer, to record from.

        Monitors or projectors may appear as choices here too.

  6. To set to record audio.
    1. Make sure the microphone icon is blue (and NOT crossed out).

    2. Also, check the audio level indicator under the microphone moves when you talk.

      Check that the audio level indicator moves up and down (series of small ovals under the microphone icon) to make sure audio is being picked up.


      Here, the microphone icon is gray and crossed out, meaning your computer display will NOT be recorded.

      Click ^ to select a different microphone, if you have a different one connected or built-in, to record from.

      Microphones can often appear as 'Unknown USB Audio Device.'

  7. To record, click the red circle in the control panel.

  8. 3-second countdown starts immediately. Then you will be recording.
    1. A mini control panel appears for pausing/stopping the recording.

  9. Make your screen recording or voice-over PowerPoint or similar video.
    1. Ignore errors that save low on disk space, but note that some applications may not run
  10. Press the white square or stop icon to stop the recording.

  11. You can then choose to 'Delete, Save and Upload, or Save the recording.
    1. Just 'Save' will save the recording to your computer locally. The recording cannot easily be placed elsewhere.
    2. 'Delete' will delete/discard the recording.
    3. (RECOMMENDED) 'Save and Upload' will save and upload the recording Drexel Streams or Drexel's Kaltura, where you can add it to one or more Bb Learn course shells.
    4. Add a title. Add a description is wish. Recommend adding tags that included the course this recording is for (if it's for a course), like CI-101, CS 283, INFO 400, etc.

If you run into some issue with uploading your recording, or with making your recording, using Kaltura Capture, here's how you often can find the recording video file or files stored locally on your own computer.

On a Mac:

  1. Open up a Finder window (any window showing files or folders).
  2. Click 'Go' menu.
  3. Click 'Connect to Server.'
  4. Copy or type in the following in the 'Go to the folder' window.
    ~/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/Recordings
  5. Click 'Go.'
  6. Look for your video recording.
